There are many vacation volunteer opportunities on Maui, and success stories are abundant!  People on vacation find volunteer opportunities using HandsOn Maui with the Haili’imaile Community Garden.

The O’Dell Family shares their Volunteer Success Story

“My wife and I are avid gardeners, community volunteers and enjoy connecting with “locals” when on vacation.  While on a visit to Maui we decided to spend a day or two volunteering on Maui.  We googled “Maui volunteer opportunities” that resulted in HandsOn Maui popping up.  Once opened, we easily found several interesting volunteer opportunities and decided to pursue working in the Hail’imaile Community Garden.

Next, we sent Lori Feroldi, Hail’imaile’s Garden Manager, an email and received a prompt response for work party dates, times and attire needed.  The prompt response was critical for us because we had limited time to volunteer.  We have volunteered at the garden on three different trips over a two year period.  At the garden we have: pulled weeds, planted, performed building and green house maintenance and pruned banana, papaya and coconut trees.

We would recommend the use of HandsOn Maui because it was easy to use, it had a wide variety of volunteer opportunities and the people you meet are awesome.  We have developed ongoing friendships as a result of this website.

The take aways we would share about our involvement with the garden is the fulfillment of giving back to the community, new adventures and great opportunity to get to know locals.  Lori Feroldi is great coordinator for the garden, she’s awesome.

Additionally we also used the site to find an opportunity to volunteer at the Hyandai PGA Golf tournament, for the Hale Makua Fundraiser in 2014. Another great opportunity to get to know locals and be involved in another of our favorite pastimes.”
