A long-time volunteer at the Maui Food Bank, Volunteer Hero Tony Pompillio recently renewed his commitment to serving the island’s hungry this year in memory of his late wife, Doris. The two of them started volunteering together at the food bank nearly 8 years ago. “I liked coming here”, Tony says. “It gave us something to do.”

When Doris became ill, Tony gave up volunteering to care for her, until she passed later that year. His volunteering didn’t end there, however, and he later returned to volunteer at the Maui Food Bank. “Doris would want this,” he says of his return to volunteering. “She would want me to continue.”

Tony is reliable, fun, easy going, has an awesome sense of humor and his efforts are appreciated each and every day.
