Crystal Smythe is more than a volunteer: She is the heart and soul of the Maui Historical Society (MHS) and ohana. The Maui Historical Society is an organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Maui’s history. They provide school tours, teacher programs, special exhibits, and other public programs promoting an appreciation of the island’s history and culture.

For the past five years, Crystal has committed to the preservation and protection of the organization. Since she started volunteering, she has participated in many projects. She was in charge of writing and managing MHS’s grants while caring for the facility’s grounds. Additionally, she also conducted summer youth programs and aided in the growth and sustainability of MHS.

In January of 2017, after completing and retiring from a very successful real estate career in Maui, Crystal became a volunteer. It was time for her to commit to projects and programs that were near and dear to her heart. Like Crystalʻs Kupuna, the late Eliza Smythe, her dedication to the MHS shows her desire to support their mission. Her continued efforts to the organization and the beloved communities of Maui make her a great role model to the MHS family and our Maui community.

For her hard work, the Maui Historical Society wishes to honor Crystal as an outstanding volunteer.
