In August 1999, youth leader Joyce Kawakami noticed that some of the teens she works with were obviously not getting enough nutritious food to eat. She started bringing groceries to the weekly meeting for the young people to take home. Word got out, and others started asking Joyce for help. This began a regular distribution of food to the poor out of the trunk of her car. As more families began coming to her for help Joyce gave up her sedan for a pick-up truck.

Today Feed My Sheep is a coalition of church congregations, collaborating ministries and corporate sponsors. The command center now resides in donated space at HC&S on Hansen Road in Pu’unene. Feed My Sheep is a unique mobile food distribution program, passing out bags of groceries to anyone who needs their help. Joyce works as a FULL TIME CEO volunteer, without pay or a benefit package, allowing donations to go towards services rather than administration.
