Raul Paiz has consistently and dependably served with the Hawaii Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary for seven years. In addition to general volunteering, he answers last minute requests for help, offers his vehicle to haul materials to outreach locations and back, fabricates and repairs displays and equipment, and always gives a positive impression. His enthusiasm seems endless, and his laugh is warm. Raul’s passion has steadily deepened as he continues to explore new ways to help the National Marine Sanctuary’s mission here on Maui. Not only does he train new volunteers, he also goes above and beyond to help keiki and adults have the best experience possible at the Visitor Center. For Raul, it is all about sharing with others about humpback whales and other protected marine species to the point that he has become a dependable and generously giving volunteer in every one of the many programs of which he is a part.
